Deer in a South African camp

Seasons with our deer

Farm life in pictures

These photographs capture our deer herds, veld camps, kitchen work and the spirit of show days. Step into a year with us, from Karoo dawns to the bustle of education days and butcher’s cold rooms.

Everyday life in the veld camps

Fallow, red, sika and chital herds graze in our well-fenced camps under Karoo skies and Midlands mists. We check the fences, water troughs and shade each morning, moving quietly to keep the groups settled. Through the year we see fawns at heel in early summer, dust devils in the heat and winter forage baled and stacked by the kraal. Our team’s work is always up close, footprints in the red sand, checking hooves, reading the signs of veld and weather. El Niño seasons remind us to walk the camps for drought stress and keep water and shade ready.

Kitchen tables and show stands

Our venison, always from our registered partner abattoir, moves from the veld through the cold chain to kitchens and farm shops. You’ll see the careful work, tagging named lots, tracking provenance and keeping the cold rooms running on backup power when the grid drops. At showgrounds like Bloemfontein, we bring the story to visitors with venison tasters and education about deer farming practices. College groups gather round to learn, and chefs discuss the best cuts for their menus, while our records and banners show each herd’s breeding history. Through it all is the same care: clean boots, calm handling, and a respect for every animal.
