People who know veld and venison

At Deer Farming, our team brings together practical experience, hands-on care and respect for the land. Each of us focuses on part of the route, from healthy pasture to fine venison and future herds.

Working the veld and caring for herds

Every season on Karoo Edge Farm and our partner properties brings its own tests and rewards. Mr Siphamandla Mnguni takes charge of herd husbandry, focusing on camp rotation, veld rest and calm, low-stress handling, especially during the heat of the midday or the snap of a cold front. He works alongside Ms Ilhaam Hendricks, who links with the game veterinarians and keeps our vaccination and parasite control programmes on track, adjusting as the seasons and weather shift. Mr Pieter Nel keeps a daily eye on pastures, drought buffers and shade, especially in El Niño years, when dry spells can run deep into summer. Careful grazing plans, water checks and shade sites mean our deer can keep condition even as the veld browns off.

Tracing provenance, sharing knowledge and breeding strong lines

Every carcass, every stud animal and every farm visit is overseen by someone who knows the detail. Ms Kgomotso Sithole handles provenance and lot records, making sure every kilogram of venison connects back to its herd and camp, with the cold chain never broken. Ms Zandile Phasha meets visitors at the farm gate, education barn or show stand, and explains the veld and the herd to each group. Mr Neo Gxowa keeps our stud and genetic records accurate, supporting conservation breeding and diversity for future generations. Together, we support permitted live animal sales, always with full biosecurity as the law and good sense require.
