All our herds and their purpose
Our main fallow deer herd ranges on the Karoo Edge farm, with red and sika camps beside it and chital camps in the KZN Midlands, all managed under strict permit, sound fencing and herd records. Each species brings its own rhythm and needs, from fallow does gathering at the calving koppie in early summer, to red stags seen browsing at dusk. Our yearling and stud programmes focus on sound genetics, calm handling and practical veld management for drought resilience. We supply live deer only to farms with the right permits, moving animals in line with foot-and-mouth disease rules and always under veterinary guidance.
Attention to pasture, shade, water and mineral blocks is constant, and closer still in El Niño years. Our handling facilities and camp layouts are built for low-stress moves, with backup power for electric fencing and cold storage. Each herd is checked daily, and any change is written up in its herd record.
