Stud Records and Genetics
Neo Gxowa, our stud records lead, keeps the stud books, pedigree packs and genetic diversity records for all our herds.

Neo is responsible for the pedigree and genetic diversity records of our fallow, red, chital and sika deer herds. He tracks births, movements, parentage and traits across the camps at Karoo Edge, making sure every stud animal’s background is up to date. When new calves are born, he logs them in the register and checks tagging, noting unusual colours or markings. Before any stud sale, Neo prepares official pedigree packs for the buyer, right down to scanned permits and recent vet checks, if needed. He also audits the herd’s genetics, flagging potential inbreeding risks and keeping diversity as broad as possible.
Neo deals with clients looking to buy breeding stock, helping them understand pedigree lines and how new blood can help their own herds. He sends pedigree packs to buyers, with clear explanations of parentage and health history. When another farm requests advice on buck-to-doe ratios or how to add fresh genetics, Neo is the team’s point of contact. He also collaborates with the veterinarians, especially for testing and permits before movement, and keeps all the records ready for inspections. At education days, he explains how proper records keep herds healthy and legal under the permit system.
Neo never lets a deer leave the property without a full pedigree summary and the right paperwork. He always double-checks all movement permits, making sure buyers hold or are applying for the proper invasive species permissions. He is strict about recording every birth, loss and move, so the herd’s story is never lost. Neo checks the records as often as the fences.
