Stud buyer pack

New and returning deer farmers can prepare for pedigree purchases and on-farm visits with our free stud buyer pack.

Stud buyer pack

Before you buy stud deer

Deer farmers and game ranchers buying our fallow, red, chital or sika stud animals under permit need their paperwork and land ready before the sale. Start before you visit Karoo Edge or another of our sales points to view breeding stock, or while you are preparing your own land for incoming animals. New buyers and those adding fresh genetics both need the basics and legal checks in place ahead of time.

The pack lists the permit, fencing and record-keeping steps that most often delay a sale, with the office to contact for each: your vet, the local authority or the provincial environment office. If you’re not sure about a step, you can bring the pack along to your farm office or next team meeting.

Permits, camp checks and pedigree requests

Inside the pack you’ll find a summary of the NEMBA permit rules, a printable pre-visit camp checklist, and a Deer Farming pedigree request form that doubles as a visit prep sheet. The pack also includes a map of our main stud camps and a guide to reading our stud records and genetic diversity charts. Fill in the pre-visit checklist before your appointment, making notes on fencing, water points and shade, then send your completed pedigree request to our records team through our contact form. We use this to prepare your custom pedigree pack and book your visit slot. It’s quite normal to forget one or two details the first time, so just let us know if you need help with your paperwork or want to check a specific bloodline or camp location.

  • NEMBA permit and fencing summary

Buyer slip-ups before a sale

A few common snags: forgetting to match the permit to the land on your forms, missing state vet permission if FMD controls are active in your area, or not booking your visit far enough ahead. Sometimes buyers overlook backup power for electric fencing, which can hold up the permit inspection before deer are moved. If you are unsure about any step, send us a message through our contact form and ask for your free stud buyer pack. Please mention your province and if you already have a permit or are still planning your first application.

  • Check permit matches your property details
  • Confirm no FMD controls in your district
  • Book your visit date in advance
  • Check electric fence backup power
  • Bring your completed prep checklist
  • Ask about bloodlines before your visit
