Herd health support

How we support herd health for buyers and partners

We help our buyers and partner farms stay on top of herd health with clear, practical support. Our veterinary liaison officer stays in touch with trusted game veterinarians to make sure all health interventions are planned and properly recorded. Our team can review your annual health calendar, advise on parasite control, vaccination points, disease screening and biosecurity routines appropriate for your area and deer species.

We also keep buyers up to date with regulatory changes, including movement controls and new animal disease regulations such as the recent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) controls. For new herds or changes in local conditions, we can recommend adjustments to routines, including camp rest, shade or water points. This support is always tailored to your farm’s location and season, whether you are in the Karoo, Midlands, Lowveld or elsewhere.

How to request support and what happens next

To start a herd health support request, please send us a summary of your questions and relevant details about your herd: location, deer species, camp size and current health protocols if you have them. Let us know if there are recent health events, changes in the weather pattern or specific concerns about regulations or movement controls.

During ordinary business hours, we confirm your request and, if needed, ask for extra details or recent records. Our veterinary liaison officer then replies with advice, or arranges an on-farm visit if veterinary input is needed. Our calendar review includes reminders for upcoming vaccinations, parasite control, and routine checks, with adjustments for any local risks (such as drought stress during an El Niño season).

What we need from you for effective support

To give the best advice, we need accurate, up-to-date herd records and clear detail about your farm’s conditions. Please keep your annual health calendar, treatment records and any state veterinary notifications ready. Tell us if your area is under animal disease movement restrictions or if you have a new permit for live animal movements.

Good photos of deer in question, kraal facilities and relevant documents are helpful. All information is treated confidentially and is used only for your herd’s support. For help, use our contact form.
