Fallow Grove Herd
Every Fallow Grove animal carries line-by-line records, with each new season building on the last.

The Fallow Grove herd began with a small group of does and two foundation bucks, chosen for their calm manner and even conformation. Over the years, we’ve brought in new blood from registered deer farms under permit, with each arrival logged by origin and health check. All animals are tagged at birth, and their dam is recorded straight after fawning. We match every buck and doe by season and paddock, so even as the herd has grown across the mixed veld, every animal’s parentage is still clear. Movement between camps or new introductions are entered into our records within a week.
Our team, led by our stud records lead, maintains the stud book for the Fallow Grove line on Karoo Edge. Every tag, movement and event is double-checked by hand and monthly in the field. We use a practical combination of written cards in the farm office and digital records backed up for safety, which helps us keep the chain of information secure even if we ever lose power.
Each breeding season, we select older, proven sires with a quiet, steady temperament. These are bucks that have shown good antler structure, solid growth, and have never given trouble when moved or handled. We avoid overusing any single line to keep genetic diversity healthy, and check for inbreeding by mapping parentage before pairing.
Does are chosen for their mothering ability, body condition, and the way they manage winter. If a line throws nervous or flighty fawns, we review its future in the herd. We breed for a herd that moves gently, stands for visitors, and produces strong fawns, with good meat yield as well. Conformation checks are done at weaning, and any animal with leg faults or poor structure is marked for the venison line.
When you buy live animals or a breeding lot from Fallow Grove, we include a full pedigree pack. This comes with three years of calving records, health checks, and every bloodline link from dam and sire to the animal you’re receiving. For those looking to grow their own registered herds, our paperwork is ready for permit applications and studbook registration under current NEMBA and Animal Diseases Act rules. All documents are signed off by our stud records lead and come as both printed and digital files.
For buyers under movement control or FMD restrictions, we work with the state vet to issue the Veterinary Red Cross permit and health documents. No animal leaves us without the correct permit for the destination property and a full biosecurity record.
