Hybrid Venison Line

Hybrid Venison Line bloodlines

The Hybrid Venison Line is built on broad red deer genetics, giving steady growth and a farm-table flavour profile.

Hybrid Venison Line breeding stock

Broadening red deer genetics from careful sources

Our Hybrid Venison Line starts with red deer from well-documented, unrelated bloodlines. We bring in animals from several distant herds, each kept under permit and registered for movement. Every addition is pre-approved by our veterinary liaison officer and double-checked with state veterinary staff for both disease status and alien species paperwork. New arrivals go into a separate quarantine camp with their own water and feed, and are only moved into main camps after full health screening.

We are mindful that red and sika deer can interbreed, so these lines are always kept on opposite sides of the farm, with double fencing and clear records. Red deer for this programme never mix with sika or the core fallow herd.

Selecting the right animals for even growth and temperament

Sires and dams are chosen for conformation, even carcass weights, strong growth under Karoo veld conditions and calm temperament. Our team, led by our herd husbandry manager, walks the camps regularly to watch for any sign of flightiness or poor social behaviour. We record weights, track antler cycles, and watch calving and calf growth closely to keep the line steady and practical for farm-to-table use.

We plan each mating to avoid inbreeding. Our stud records lead manages a studbook with full parent and offspring records, making sure every calf’s bloodlines are fully documented. We use outcrossing within red deer, never crossing species.

  • Sires from three Karoo herds
  • No sika or fallow crosses
  • Temperament noted at each handling

Records that travel with every hybrid lot

When a buyer takes on animals from our Hybrid Venison Line, they receive a pedigree pack prepared by our stud records lead. This includes the full copy of dam and sire records, birth and weight details, vaccination and movement history, and the state veterinary permit required for the Alien and Invasive Species Regulations.

All lots are traceable by number back to main stud records. We also provide a list of any special feed or camp notes, and instructions for state movement permits. We never release animals unless the buyer holds, or is applying for, a valid invasive species permit for their property.

  • Pedigree documents for each animal
  • Movement and permit paperwork
  • Full vaccination and health record
